Buy Girl Scout cookies, support our deployed troops

If you’re a big fan of Girl Scout cookies like I am, you know that it’s COOKIE SEASON, and the cookies should be arriving at your house very soon. But if you missed out on ordering this year, or you REALLY need more Thin Mints to toss in the freezer, have no fear. I know two troops which will be selling them at local businesses in the coming weeks.

But even better than just being able to get some for yourself, you’ll also be able to buy a box or two (or more) to send to our deployed troops.

Here are the details:

Webster Girl Scout Troop 60568 will be setting up in these locations beginning this weekend:

  • Saturday March 8, Lowe’s, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Saturday March 15, Mama Lor’s (Lake Rd.), 9 a.m. to noon
  • Sunday March 23, CountryMax, 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Friday March 28, Walmart, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

PLUS, Webster Girl Scout Troop 60344 will have a table set up in these locations on these dates:

  • Saturday March 22, Pittsford Plaza, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday March 29, Walmart, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday March 30, CountryMax, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At all of these remote sales locations, the girls will be taking orders for cookies to be included in care packages being put together by the Blue Star Mothers for our local troops who are deployed overseas. The packages will be mailed out in June.

Service members love receiving Girl Scout cookies, as you can imagine. The soldiers say they love everything in the care packages (toiletries, treats, socks, etc), but their favorite by far are the Girl Scout cookies. They’re basically a small taste of home, and even after they’ve been bounced around the world — even if they arrive in crumbs — they’re still treasured.

So plan to stop by one of these tables this month, pick up some extra cookies for yourself, and help spread smiles around the world. This year’s goal is 350 boxes!

But if you missed out on ordering this year, or you REALLY need more Thin Mints to toss in the freezer, have no fear. I know of at least one troop which will be selling them at local businesses in the coming weeks.

Webster Girl Scout Troop 60344 will have a table set up in these locations on these dates:

  • Sunday, April 7: Lowe’s Home Improvement, 900 Five Mile Line Rd., 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Friday, April 12: Edge Barber Shop, 205 North Ave., 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 13: Edge Barber Shop, 205 North Ave., noon to 3 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 27: Walmart, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  
  • Saturday, April 27: Walmart, 1 to 4 p.m.

They’ll not only be selling cookies to all of us, they’ll also be taking orders for cookies which will be included in care packages being put together by the Blue Star Mothers for our locally deployed troops, which will be mailed out in June.

You can also purchase cookies online to be included in the care packages. Click here to get to the website, and make sure to indicate “Have Girl Scout Troop 60344 deliver the cookies” so you don’t pay for shipping. And please add the word “Care” before their name (like, Care Missy Rosenberry). This will let the troop know the cookies will be donated to our service members. (Best to stay away from chocolate cookies since they might melt in transit!)

It’s Girl Scout cookie time!

Hooo boy, this is going to be dangerous.

The Girl Scouts are going all-in with their online sales this year, thanks in large part (I’m sure) to this never-ending pandemic. I don’t know about you, but I’m going to find it much easier to pull out a credit card for my cookie order than try to scrounge up cash. Which, of course, facilitates the purchase of more Girl Scout cookies than a normal body needs. (AND you can get them delivered right to your house in just about a week.)

I’ve had a regular cookie connection for many years, ever since we lived in North Penfield across the street from Annalise, who sold us cookies every year before we moved to the village.

But even though we weren’t neighbors anymore, I knew where she lived, so I still tracked her down when cookie time rolled around. This year it’s so much easier — all I have to do is visit her personal cookie-selling website to get my fix of Thin Mints and Shortbreads. Anna’s little sister Adelia is a Brownie now as well, so I’m going to have to split my order … or maybe just buy more.

The Scouts are being encouraged to record promotional videos this year as well. I think that’s pretty neat in that it gives these young ladies a little public speaking experience. If you’re at all interested, here’s Anna’s video, and here’s Adelia’s.

I hope you also have a regular Girl Scout cookie connection. Or perhaps you wait until you can grab some boxes in March when they’ve set up tables outside local businesses. But if you can’t wait and really need a source, feel free to visit Adelia’s or Anna’s cookie ordering sites.

And if you really DON’T like Girl Scout cookies, there’s still a way you can support the organization’s goals and the opportunities they provide for the girls. It’s a program called “Cookie Share,” where you can purchase some boxes to be donated. Usually these go to local military organizations.

Thin Mint fan or not, I encourage everyone to support the Girl Scouts. They do so many neat things with these young ladies. Adelia’s mom Jess told me the trips her daughter’s been on already include visits to the Planetarium, Ginna and the George Eastman Museum. Plus, she’s taken an engineering class at the U or R and sampled karate and yoga.

I don’t remember having anywhere near that much fun when I was a Camp Fire Girls Bluebird back in the day.
