The Knuckleheads celebrate another anniversary

16 Dec

The Knuckleheads are having a birthday party, and the entire beer-loving public is invited.

Knucklehead Craft Brewing turns three years old this month, and they’re planning an appropriate celebration, complete with a special brew, treats from their kitchen and live music.

The party takes place on Saturday December 23 from 3 p.m. till midnight. There’ll be a special food menu, featuring house-roasted sirloin on fresh kimmelweck rolls topped with horseradish aioli. Live music will be provided by Marty Roberts and Donny C. from 7:30 till 11:30 p.m.

Knucklehead’s award-winning Tainted Haze IPA will be on tap, and one of the pub’s most decadent beers will make its annual return for the party: their Russian Imperial Stout.

Webster’s own craft brewery has grown up a lot since it opened in 2014. They updated their kitchen and expanded their menu, added lots of great merchandise, more equipment to streamline their brewing process, more staff, and regular live music.

Check it all out for yourself at Knucklehead Craft Brewing’s third year anniversary party, Saturday December 23 from 3 p.m. to midnight, and wish the Knuckleheads a happy birthday!

Knucklehead Craft Brewing is located at 426 Ridge Road, at the corner of Bay. Check out their webpage here at and their Facebook page here. They’re open Wednesday and Thursday 4 to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 3 to 11 pm, and Sunday 2 to 7 p.m., and the kitchen is open every day.

News from the Knuckleheads

23 Sep

I haven’t written much of late about Len Dummer and George Cline of Knucklehead Craft Brewing, but rest assured, they’ve been busy, making friends and winning awards.

Len sent me an email a short time ago filling me in on some details, and I’m pleased to pass along the news.

For starters, at the annual Foodlink Festival of Food, held September 18 at the Public Market, Knucklehead received the award for Best Alcoholic Beverage. They were up against some stiff competition from other purveyors of beer, wines, ciders and spirits. This is the third year in a row that Knucklehead has brought home top honors in that category.

It’s also interesting to note that Joe Bean Coffee Roasters won as the best non-alcoholic beverage. Does anyone remember when Joe Bean was just that little coffee shop on East Main Street in the village? They’ve really gone on to make a name for themselves.

Knucklehead also competed in the New York State Craft Beer Competition, which took place in Rochester on July 29.

Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to winning breweries in 20 beer categories covering 40 different beer styles (including all subcategories), establishing the best examples of each style in the state.

Knucklehead won second place in the IPA category, once again against very respectable competition, and lots of it — that category alone had 88 entries. The winning brew is called Tainted Haze IPA and is a “juice-bomb” style IPA.

If you haven’t checked out Knucklehead yet, or haven’t been back in a while, next Saturday might be a great time to do so, when the brewpub hosts its Oktoberfest.

The event on Saturday, September 30 will feature lots of great German food including Bratwurst, German potato salad, red cabbage, and appetizers. Plus, of course, they’ll have their Oktoberfest on tap, which is described as “full body, (with) copper color, medium alcohol content and only noble hops.”

Oktoberfest will run from 3 to 11 p.m. at Knucklehead Craft Brewing, 426 Ridge Road in West Webster. Check out their Facebook page and website for more information.

The Knuckleheads are kickin’ it again

30 Jun

knucklehead-logoKnucklehead Craft Brewing in West Webster is re-introducing a seasonal favorite

The Kick-It seasonal imperial IPA will be released on July 5. It gets its name from the fact that Knucklehead owners Len Dummer and George Cline will be donating proceeds from its launch to help fight cancer.

Len and George describe the brew:

We used Chinook, Columbus, and Cascade hops during the boil and dry-hopped it
with Willamette to finish at 94 IBUs. The sweet malt body is complemented by a mild hop bitterness (8.5% ABV).

The Knuckleheads first introduced their Kick It IPA back in 2015, with its proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. This time around, they’ll be donating $1 from each beer sold to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester.

Back then, Len explained their reasoning:

Both of our families have been touched by cancer as well as many, many of our customers and close friends’ families. This is simply our way of saying ‘thank you’ to our supporters and it gives them a chance to enjoy a pint while knowing their money will go to a wonderful cause.

They ended up raising $5300 for the American Cancer Society. Let’s see if we can do even better this time.
