Willink Student-Parent Band will perform Nov. 23

19 Nov

The Willink Student-Parent Band will be presenting their fall concert this Saturday.

This is a very talented local music group whose musicians range from middle schoolers to grandparents, doing what they love to do — play music — all together in one place.

The band, now in its 31st season, is comprised of Webster School District students, parents, grandparents and community members. It’s led by conductors Tiffany DiPiazza and Matt Osika, who promise a musical lineup with pieces from Jurassic Park, the Muppets, disco tunes and more. Plus, in celebration of the band’s 30th anniversary last year, there will also be a special world premiere of “Dramatic Fanfare” written for the band by former Willink music teacher, composer, and Student-Parent Band founder Larry Neeck.

The Willink Middle School Student-Parent Band will perform Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. in the Willink Cafetorium, 900 Publishers Parkway. A $4 donation is suggested for admission. Tickets can be purchased from band members or at the door.

30 years of beautiful music and counting

13 Mar

In March of every year — Music in Our Schools Month — we can always count on our incredibly talented Webster musicians to pull together some outstanding performances. This weekend’s concert by the Willink Student-Parent Band is a great example.

The band is celebrating its 30th anniversary this weekend, three decades of inter-generational musical collaboration by middle school students, alumni and their parents.

For this very special occasion, conductors Matt Osika and Tiffany DiPiazza are planning a very special evening of vibrant music featuring harmonies of past and present generations. This year’s band even has  three generations in one family performing together, when three Willink Middle School/Webster Thomas High School students will be playing with their mother and their grandfather.

This is truly a heartwarming evening of community music which the whole family will enjoy.

The concert will be held on Saturday March 16 at 7 p.m. at Willink Middle School, 900 Publishers Parkway. Tickets are $4 at the door.

Our very own Webster Village Band is kicking off its season, having just released its 2020 rehearsal schedule.

Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 pm, usually in the Willink Middle School band room. They’ll begin this Thursday March 12 and run through June 4, with a concerts scheduled pre-season concerts scheduled for April 23 at Calkins Rd. Middle School in Pittsford and May 7 at Cherry Ridge Senior Center.

The all-volunteer Webster Village Band is comprised of more than 50 members,  under the direction of Tom Indiano and Associate Director Sue Siegmund. They’re always looking for more musicians to join the group. Additional information is available from Harvey Cohen, at hcohen@rochester.rr.com. Plus, you can see more rehearsal information on their website here.
