Get your tickets now for Webster Community Night at the Red Wings

If you haven’t gotten your fill of Rochester Red Wings games this season, here’s a good opportunity to do so, at a great price.

On Friday Aug. 16, the Webster Recreation Center will be partnering with the Red Wings to host a Webster Community Night. The focus will be on our community that evening; Supervisor Tim Flaherty will be throwing out the first pitch, and Webster-based musician Sarah De Vallière is singing the national anthem.

The game starts at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are only $10; you can use the QR code on the flyer, or click here.

The Wings will be in the middle of a home stand with their cross-state rivals, the Syracuse Mets, and they’re doing really well this year, so this should be an exciting game to watch. And what a great way to spend an evening with the family.

Several businesses and community groups already have signed up as sponsors for the evening, and will have promotional tables set up with giveaways, including Webster Golf Club, Webster Public Library, Wellness 360 Physical Therapy, Kittelberger Florist & Gifts, Diamond Collision and fairlife. Speaking of Sarah De Vallière, this very popular local musician will be performing a free concert at the Webster Arboretum on Thursday Aug. 22 as part of the Webster Recreation Center’s Music at the Arb series.

These concerts are held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Arboretum’s gazebo, with plenty of room for music lovers to relax in chairs or on blankets, with a cooler at their side filled with drinks and snacks. There’s no charge, and there’s plenty of parking.

BUT BEFORE THAT, the next Music at the Arb concert is scheduled for Thursday July 18, featuring Doctor’s Orders, an acoustic folk and pop duo playing a variety of songs from the Beatles to John Prine, and pretty much everything in between.

Musical, wet and muddy fun ahead, courtesy the Webster Rec

Today’s blog is dedicated to the Webster Parks and Recreation Department and all of the cool events they have coming up this summer.

The first one I want to highlight is the annual Summer Splash family fun event taking place this coming Saturday July 22 at the First Responders Spray Park, just west of the Rec Center on Chiyoda Drive.

From 3 to 5 p.m., families are invited to the park to see Rich the Magic Man with his bubble foam machine, enjoy free Snowie Ice courtesy Gleason Orthodontics, and of course lots of splashy fun at the town’s best spray park.

There’s no cost, and registration is not required.

Next, make sure to mark your calendars for this summer’s Music in the Park series, sponsored by the Rec Center at the Kent Park gazebo.

The next concert is on Wednesday July 26, featuring Doctor’s Orders, an acoustic folk and pop duo playing a variety of songs from the Beatles to John Prine, and pretty much everything in between.

The concert will be held Wednesday July 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kent Park on Schlegel Rd. It’s free and open to the public. Bring a chair or a blanket, fill a cooler with dinner and drinks, and enjoy a pleasant evening of music.

Coming up on August 16, the concert will feature Sarah De Valliere and Levi Gangi. Read more about them in the poster above.

And it’s not too early to pencil this next event into your calendar.

The Rec Center’s third annual Mud Run has been scheduled for Saturday Sept. 23.

The Mud Run is a a non-competitive, untimed, one-mile run/walk along the Recreation Center’s obstacle course/fitness trail which loops around the back of the facility. Some of the run will be through water and mud, and there will be some challenging obstacles. What’s really neat about it is that kids and their adults can do it together. It’s only $5 per person, and the organizers promise that there’ll be swag, fun and food. I can personally attest that it is tons of fun, and I hope to make it again this year.

The Rec Center brings you music and mud this week

The Webster Parks and Recreation Center has got a couple of fun and entertaining events coming up this week.

The first is the Rec Center’s next Music in the Park concert at the gazebo at the Arboretum, 1700 Schlegel Rd. This week’s concert will be presented by Doctor’s Orders, featuring my good friends Dave and Patty Wyble.

Doctor’s Orders is an acoustic folk and pop duo playing a variety of songs from the Beatles to John Prine, and pretty much everything in between. They’re a delightful duo which everyone will enjoy.

The concert will be held Thursday Sept. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Arboretum. It’s free and open to the public. Bring a chair or a blanket, fill a cooler with dinner and drinks, and enjoy a pleasant evening of music.

Tuesday Webster Mailbag

There are a couple of great community events coming up I want to let you know about.

This Friday March 31, Webster Boy Scout Troop 942 will be holding a Fish Fry Dinner Fundraiser at the American Legion Post 492 on Ridge Road, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., or until the dinners run out (and that usually happens).

Cost is $12 and the dinner includes a choice of broiled or beer battered-fried fish with a side of roasted potatoes and coleslaw. Dinners may be ordered for dine in or take out.

There’s also great entertainment at these dinners! Local folk/pop duo Doctor’s Orders will be playing from 5:30 to 7. They make a great dinner even better.

Webster Thomas presents Aida next weekend

 

Don’t forget about next weekend’s production of Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida, presented by the Webster Thomas Players.

Here’s the synopsis:

At the Nile’s edge, the enslaved Nubian princess, Aida becomes romantically entangled shirt expandedwith the Egyptian captain, Radames, who is betrothed to the Pharaoh’s daughter, Amneris. As their forbidden love grows deeper, Aida is forced to find balance between her heart’s yearning for Radames, and her responsibility to lead her people.

Based on the opera by Giuseppe Verdi, Elton John and Time Rice’s Aida is a timeless love story, featuring an award-winning pop/rock score from the seasoned pop duo who brought musical life to Disney’s The Lion King. Rousing rock numbers and heart-wrenching ballads bring the ill-fated lovers into a new era.

The show will be presented in four performances, at 7:30 p.m. April 6, 7 and 8, and a 2 p.m. matinee on April 8.

JACK Foundation holds fundraiser 

The JACK Foundation will host a Spring Vendor Blender fundraiser on Saturday April 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Webster Parks and Recreation Center, 1350 Chiyoda Drive.

The craft and direct vendor sale will benefit the JACK Foundation’s efforts to build dinosaur-themed playgrounds in memory of 3-year old Jack Heiligman, who lost his life in a tragic accident last October.

The event will include raffle items, children’s entertainment (face painting, balloon animals and more) and more than 25 vendors selling a variety of different items. Some of the vendors include:

Posh, Tupperware, Norwex, Usbourne books,Touchstone Jewelry, Rolden Fields, Gold Canyon, Lularoe, Kannaway, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, The Best You Spa, It Works, Young Living, Thirty One, Yonique, Lip Sense, Mary Kay, Silpada, L’Brie, Scentsy, and a variety of different crafters.
