If you do nothing else today…

14 Sep

…make sure you AT LEAST get out to the Rochester Garlic Festival. Because it’s downright amazing.

It’s taking place at the Webster Recreation Center on Chiyoda Drive until 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. And it’s a must-see festival.

I spent some time there this afternoon and came away extremely impressed by the number of vendors (garlic and non-garlic), the quality of the entertainment, variety of kids’ activities and food trucks. Vendors are spread throughout the Rec Center’s gymnasium and outside under tents, and there’s are separate rooms inside for the cooking demonstrations and several tasting stations.

Parking was not a problem, either. If there’s not room in the lot immediately in front of the Rec Center (and it was crowded), you can park across the street and walk, or take a shuttle bus. Our town’s wonderful Special Police are there to help.

All of this amazingness costs just $5 admission, and children under 12 are free. And all proceeds benefit Challenger Miracle Field of Greater Rochester, a fully-accessible sports facility which we are fortunate to have right here in Webster.

So if you didn’t have a chance to go today, carve out a few hours tomorrow, and bring the kids. You won’t regret it.

The garlic is BACK!

24 Jul

garlic festival 2

Garlic lovers, rejoice! The Webster Garlic Festival is returning this year, and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever.

For starters, its increased awesomeness has led to a name change. It’s now the Rochester Garlic Festival. It’s scheduled for Saturday and Sunday Sept. 14 and 15, and will still be held at the Webster Rec Center on Chiyoda Drive.

Details are still being finalized, but organizers expect about 100 vendors, including garlic growers, specialty food vendors, arts and craft vendors, and community organizations. There will be four food trucks, and live music both days including the Zac Brown Tribute Band, the Walter Chatman Experience, State Line and The Breakfast Club.

Two Wegmans chefs will present demonstrations, there’ll be a beer tent, a kids’ play area complete with bounce house.

See? I told you it was bigger and better.

Admission to the festival is $5 per day, with children 12 and under free. Admission includes free parking, shuttle transportation, live music, cooking demonstrations and access to arts vendors and a kids’ play area.

All proceeds will benefit Challenger Miracle Field of Greater Rochester. The field itself is up and running — and being used regularly — so now the focus is on building a barrier-free playground, an inclusive playground for kids with and without disabilities around Rochester.

It’s official –the Garlic Festival is back

24 Jan

garlic

I know, I know. I already told you last October that the Garlic Festival was returning. But now it’s really, really official, because the call has gone out for vendors.

The name has been changed — it’s now the Rochester Garlic Festival instead of the Webster Garlic Festival — but all of the other great things about the festival have not changed. There will be lots of garlic vendors and cooking demonstrations, other vendors and community agencies, live entertainment, food trucks and more. PLUS all proceeds will benefit Challenger Miracle Field!

The Rochester Garlic Festival is scheduled for Saturday Sept. 14, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday Sept. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Webster Recreation Center.

BUT FIRST the festival needs vendors. Organizers are now accepting vendor applications. For details about booth fees, visit the Rochester Garlic Festival website, or click here to download an application.

Make sure to check the website frequently for updated festival information. You’ll also want to follow the festival on Facebook and Instagram.
