How about going out for dinner tonight?

The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 1130 Webster Road (at the corner of State Road), is holding a drive-thru takeout chicken dinner sale today from 4 to 6 p.m. (or until sold out).

Proceeds will benefit the church’s Outreach Committee which supports local charities in the greater Rochester area. Each meal (from Heintzelman’s BBQ Pit of Ontario) is $12, consisting of a half-side of chicken, salt potatoes, cole slaw and cornbread.

The Webster Marching Band’s next Bottle and Can Drive takes place this Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is a very easy way for you to help out this talented group of young people. Simply put all your empty bottles and cans in a big bag, tie it up, and place it somewhere outside your house where it’s visible from the street. They’ll swing by and pick it up.

Don’t leave the bag outside overnight, by the way. People have been known to come by and take them before the band makes its rounds.

If they happen to miss you, you can drop the bag off at Webster Schroeder High School, 875 Ridge Road, anytime before 4 p.m. Or you can always call their hotline number at 234-8684 and leave a message. OR, you can drop them off at Can Kings, 1183 Ridge Road, and tell them you want to donate them to the Marching Band.

I’ve been a bit negligent this summer in not yet having promoted the Caring Community Concert series held by the Webster United Church of Christ every Wednesday night.

The concerts are held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on the front lawn of the church, 570 Klem Road, and feature some great local entertainers. Here’s who’s in tap:

August 8: Ruby Shooz
August 15: Mr. Mustard

Concessions and a free-will offering will benefit our Webster community.

If you’re a fan of LuLaRoe, make your way over to the Webster Public Library on Wednesday August 15 for their LuLaRoe Pop Up Boutique from 3 to 6 p.m. You’ll find it in the Community Room.

I’m pleased to pass on the names of the some of the top golfers from the recent charity golf tournament hosted by the Webster Golf Club’s Ladies’ Association.

The tournament, held July 26, raised $11,900 to benefit the Webster Comfort Care Home.

Winners of the member/guest tournament were:

  • 1st Place: Holley Rock, Kim Pavlock, Debbie Hibbard, Sue Knapp
  • 2nd Place: Laurie Farrell, Kathy Hutteman, Marlene Friberg, Mary Signor
  • 3rd Place: Janet Brower, Kris Taylor, Ellie Pensgen, Liz Hill

Karen Morreali won “Closest to the Pin,” and Janet Brower won “Longest Drive.”

Webster Marching Band welcomes autumn with music

The Webster Marching Band’s annual celebration of autumn will feature a touch of winter this year.

Autumn Fanfare flyerFINALThe band’s 32nd annual Autumn Fanfare is scheduled for Saturday, October 7 at the Webster Schroeder High School stadium.

This terrific community event is a premier field show and competition, hosted by the The Pride of Webster marching band, but also featuring performances by six Greater Rochester area bands.

The Webster Marching Band — comprised of 64 middle and high school musicians and color guard performers — will perform their 2017-18 program, “froZEN.” It features the music of Mark Ford and Madonna, and takes a unique approach to the sounds and imagery of a Chinese winter.

It sounds amazing.

The show will begin at 7 p.m., and gates open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 in advance at Hegedorns and $8 at the gate. Webster CSD student and staff tickets are just $2 with a Webster student or staff ID. Children under 5 are free. A few food trucks will also be on hand if you get hungry.

Big week for food and fun in Webster

Let’s hope the weather holds this week, because there are a lot of fun events coming up.

This week, of course, is when the Webster Firemen’s Carnival returns to town, kicked off with the huge Firemen’s Parade which will take over Main Street in the village on Thursday evening.

You can find all the details here about the Kiddie Parade, the Firemen’s Parade, and the carnival, but here are a few highlights:

  • Wednesday: Carnival opens at 6 pm at Firemen’s Field on Main Street. Featured attraction is a Craft Beer Night.
  • Thursday: The Firemen’s Parade kicks off at 6:30 p.m. , starting at Phillips Road and continuing down Main Street to Firemen’s Field. The carnival is open from 6 pm till late.
  • Friday: Carnival opens at 6 p.m., featuring live entertainment in the beer pavilion.
  • Saturday: The Kiddie Parade will be held beginning at 12 noon (this appears to be a change from previous years when it was held Wednesday night). Registration begins at 11 a.m. at Spry Middle School. The carnival runs through midnight with live entertainment, rides, games, food and drink, a bike raffle, and fireworks to end the night.

And don’t forget about the Webster Marching Band Boosters’ second annual Food Truck Rodeo, scheduled for this Friday July 21 from 5 to 9 pm in Webster Schroeder High School’s front parking lot.

The Marching Band Boosters sponsor various fundraising events throughout the year to help pay for the Webster Marching Band’s equipment, show productions, and competition-related trip expenses.

At least 11 food trucks will be on hand, including Macarollin, Tuscan Wood Fired Pizza, Rob’s Kabobs, The Meatball Truck Co., Midnight Smokin’ BBQ, Meat the Press, Le Petit Poutine, WingNutz, Abbott’s Frozen Custard, Kona Ice, and Smoothies Plus.

There will also be face painting for the kids, a visit by a West Webster Fire Department truck, and live music provided by the Aaron Rizzo Trio. Admittance to the rodeo is FREE, and all proceeds from the food trucks will benefit the Marching Band Boosters and Webster Marching Band members.

Webster Brownie Troop Makes Blankets for Children in Need

Webster Girl Scout Brownie troop 60392 recently made knotted fleece blankets to donate to Project Linus, which then distributes them to children who are critically ill, have been traumatized, or are experiencing another form of need.

The 11 third-graders from Plank South Elementary made this a featured part of a sleepover event. They then donated them to Project Linus through Cafe Sewciety Quilts on Empire Blvd.

Webster Marching Band Boosters Host Food Truck Rodeo

The Webster Marching Band Boosters have announced their second annual Food Truck Rodeo, scheduled for Friday July 21 from 5 to 9 pm in Webster Schroeder High School’s front parking lot.

The Marching Band Boosters sponsor various fundraising events throughout the year to help pay for the Webster Marching Band’s equipment, show productions, and competition-related trip expenses.

Eleven food trucks have already signed on for the event, including Macarollin, Tuscan Wood Fired Pizza, Rob’s Kabobs, The Meatball Truck Co., Midnight Smokin’ BBQ, Meat the Press, Le Petit Poutine, WingNutz, Abbott’s Frozen Custard, Kona Ice, and Smoothies Plus.

Webster Marching Band wants your bottles

It’s time to clean out the garage.

If you’re like me, you have a huge garbage bag or two of returnables hanging out in your garage, awaiting your motivation to take them back to Wegmans or Hegedorns. Well, the Webster Marching Band will be happy to take them off your hands.

The band’s next Bottle and Can Drive happens this Saturday June 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. All you have to do is place those bags outside your house or at the end of the driveway, with a little note indicating they’re for the band, and they’ll be whisked away for a good cause.

Or, if you plan to be out and about on Saturday, you can drop them off at the collection site, Webster Schroeder High School, 875 Ridge Road, by 4 p.m.

OR, you can call the Bottle and Can Hotline (234-8684, option 1) ANYTIME to arrange a pickup at a time convenient for you.

BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE!

Along with the bottle and can drive, there will also be an electronics disposal event at the Schroeder parking lot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

So while you’re gathering up all those returnables, throw some old electronics in a box and bring them along. The items accepted include desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones, LCD monitors, laser printers (not ink-based) and networking equipment. Sorry, no TVs, CRT monitors or ink-based printers can be accepted.

Stay tuned for news of the Webster Marching Band’s next events, an Applebee’s pancake breakfast on July 17 and a food truck rodeo on July 21.
