Baseball and carnival news

9 Jul

boys

A couple of quick notes this morning. First, this photo sent to me by Melissa Bolton with happy news about some of our local athletes.

Last weekend, the Webster Warthogs 15U Baseball team competed in PBR East West Battle Championship in Cortland and brought home the title. Congratulations for another job well done, and for continuing to make Webster proud!

Next. I grabbed these photos this morning from the Firemen’s Field, where the carnies are setting up shop.

The annual Firemen’s Carnival begins tomorrow (Wednesday) at 6 p.m., featuring craft beer and entertainment by Claudia Hoyser, in addition to the ever-present rids, games, food and drink.

The HUGE parade begins at 6:30 on Thursday, kicking off from Phillips Rd. and heading west along Main Street to the carnival site. Thanks to my friend Sarah, I got a sneak peak at this year’s parade line-up, and all I gotta say is … wow.

There are no fewer than 90 units marching this year, and I counted 25 different fire departments, from as far away as Canada, many of whom are also bringing representatives from their ambulance corps. So if your kids like fire trucks, lights and sirens, get a seat early.

No, really. People start setting up their chairs along Main Street early in the morning for this parade. It’s THAT good.

Webster Warthogs welcome vets

Here’s a great little bit of news about some of the fine young people in our community.

The Webster Warthogs 14U baseball team was at the Rochester Airport Sunday afternoon to help welcome 47 veterans home. The vets arrived at the airport following their Honor Flight trip to Washington D.C. where they spent time visiting the memorials.

The team greeted them with handshakes and thank yous, along with personalized letters written to each individual veteran thanking them for their service to our country.

From cheering and clapping to handmade signs, these deserving servicemen received a true hero’s welcome from the whole crowd. It was very inspirational for everyone involved.

Thanks to Melissa Bolton for sending this nice piece my way, and to Renee Romano for the great photos.

Congratulations to the Webster Warthogs 13u travel baseball team, who recently took top honors at the Lake Erie Championship Series.

The Warthogs competed in the tournament at Sports Force Parks in Sandusky, Ohio on August 4 through 6. Thank you to Melissa Bolton for this report on the weekend’s success:

The boys came away with a 5-0-1 total record for the weekend. We won all three games on Sunday to take the championship. We were the only town team in attendance competing among a competitive schedule of tournament teams from Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and more.

The genuine and intense camaraderie of the players coupled with disciplined coaching and fun, supportive parents is our secret to success. We truly are one big family.

Melissa also noted that on July 26, the Warthogs 13u won the MCBR Division title. They finished the year with an impressive 31-8-1 record.
