If you’ve never experienced a meat raffle, you’re really missing out.
I’ve attended two meat raffle fundraisers, hosted by my daughter’s elementary school in Buffalo, so I know how much fun they can be. These fast-moving, high-energy events are always entertaining, and there’s a really good chance you’ll walk away with some sort of meaty winnings: ribs, chicken, pork chops, steaks, burgers, hot dogs — you name it. (Experienced meat raffle attendees always bring a cooler with them, they win so often.)
So I think it’s great to finally see that meat raffles are making their way east to Rochester, and particularly to Webster. Your next chance to check one out is next Friday, Nov. 13, when the Webster Thomas Hockey Team holds a Meat Raffle Fundraiser beginning at 6 p.m., at the Webster Fireman’s Building, 172 Sanford St.
The event will feature multiple rounds of raffles for fresh, high-quality cuts of meat, giving attendees plenty of opportunities to take home some delicious prizes while supporting the Webster Thomas hockey program. The evening will also include basket raffles, a 50/50 drawing, and plenty of excitement as participants cheer on their winning numbers.
The concept is simple: participants purchase tickets for individual rounds, typically costing $1 or $2 each, and winners are selected by spinning a wheel. With multiple rounds throughout the evening, there are plenty of chances to win.
“We’re really looking forward to bringing our hockey families and the greater Webster community together for a fun night out,” said Judy Van Heusen, co-president of the Webster Thomas Hockey Boosters. Co-president Gwen Scibienski added, “Events like this are a wonderful way to support our players and our program while having a great time with friends and neighbors. You don’t have to be a hockey fan to come out, have some fun, and maybe even go home with a freezer full of meat!”
Guests are encouraged to bring their own food and snacks to enjoy throughout the evening. Beverages will be available for purchase.
Admission tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Seating is limited, so advance ticket purchases are strongly encouraged. You can get them from any Webster Thomas hockey player or online here. All proceeds will benefit the Webster Thomas Hockey Boosters and their efforts to support the school’s hockey program.
