Webster’s Willink and Spry middle schools held their Pumpkin Runs last week, and the results are in.
The one-mile runs are held every year for the schools’ sixth graders, a way to get them outside for some exercise, introduce them to cross-country running, and give them a chance for some friendly house v. house competition.
Eighty-two sixth graders took part in Willink’s Pumpkin Run — the school’s 20th annual — on Wednesday, Oct. 28. And those kids put in some pretty impressive times. Congratulations to Oliver Randisi, who crossed the finish line first with an incredible sub-six minute mile (5:59). Rounding out the top ten were Paxton Ruffo, Freddie Fischer, Wyatt Snook, Ryan Allen, Brett Danforth, Jaxson Guilfoil, Emerson Ganter, Antonii Kucherenko and Kai Faust.
The young athletes weren’t just running for individual honors; they were also representing their respective houses. This year, Blue House runners notched 23 points, earning the Pumpkin Run trophy and bragging rights for the school year. Red House was second with 49 points, and Green House was third with 66 points.

Spry Middle School held its Pumpkin Run the following day, Thursday, Oct. 29. More than 80 sixth graders participated.
Red House captured the trophy and bragging rights for the year, led by race winner Ryan Orman with a time of 5:52. Red House runners dominated the leaderboard, taking five of the top six spots. Rounding out the top ten finishers were Nicholas Harms, Lucas McKenney, Bradley Rounds, Bryce Rudney, Dean Sarkis, Connor O’Reilly, Dean Rounds, Clara Decker and Mae Decker.
Organizers extended special thanks to Holt Road Wegmans, Bowen Family Farm and Sunscape Farm for their donations, as well as the sixth-grade team, PTSA volunteers, and the modified, JV and varsity cross-country teams for their support.
Congratulations to all who participated!
